• India’s First Home-grown Antibiotic Is Here

As a doctor, I’m genuinely excited about a recent milestone in Indian medicine — the launch of Nafithromycin, the first antibiotic discovered, developed and clinically validated entirely in India.

This antibiotic — marketed as Miqnaf — promises a short, once-daily, three-day treatment for community-acquired bacterial pneumonia (CABP), even when caused by multi-drug resistant pathogens.

For me, this represents more than just a new drug — it’s a leap toward self-reliance, better treatment outcomes, and hope against antibiotic-resistant infections. I look forward to prescribing it when appropriate — and to a future where Indian innovation continues to strengthen our fight against superbugs.
